The students from the National Schools of Trincomalee Zone gathered at the St. Joseph's College on Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Spelling Bee Competition, conducted by the Lions Club of Trincomalee in collaboration with the Past Students' Association of Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies College and CCDP (Center for Community Development and Peace).
This competition was held as an initiative to encourage students to increase their English Language Knowledge and appreciate their talents.
The two days long competition consisted of a series of individual events, and was held in two stages: First between the students of the same school, where 10 students were selected from each school to participate in the final round. Many students from different schools portrayed their capabilities, astonishing the panel of judges in all age groups. Students from St. Mary's College were no exception. Despite the extremely tight competition, four students from our school were able to obtain places across different age groups, proving their talents overall.
